Where did I get the idea God fights for me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I read what Moses said to the Israelites. \u201c\u2026Fear not; stand\nstill (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He\nwill work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never\nsee again. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and\nremain at rest\u201d (Exodus 14:13-14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Moses spoke those words, the Lord told him to tell the\npeople to go forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A brief historical review: the Israelites had been enslaved\nin Egypt until God raised up Moses to deliver them. He went to Pharaoh to\nnegotiate their release, but he refused to let them go. After God sent ten\nplagues, the last being the death of every first-born son in Egypt (even the\nfirst-born of the cattle), he agreed to let them go. Then he changed his mind,\nsummoned his army, and pursued them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course the Israelites were afraid\u2014the army behind them,\nthe river before them. They must have wondered, \u201cHow on earth could even God\ndeliver us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe Lord always has a plan, and sometimes his methods make me smile. <\/a><\/span>Click To Tweet<\/a><\/span>\n\n\n\n The Lord always has a plan, and sometimes his methods make me smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He \u201c\u2026caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all\nthat night and made the sea dry land; and the waters were divided. And the\nIsraelites went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a\nwall to them on their right hand and on their left\u201d (v. 21-22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nEgyptians pursued them and in the morning the Lord \u201cdiscomfited [them]. And\nbound (clogged, took off) their chariot wheels, making them drive heavily; and\nthe Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fights\nfor them against the Egyptians\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThen the\nLord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may\ncome again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and horsemen\u2026the Lord\noverthrew the Egyptians and shook them off into the midst of the sea\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThus the\nLord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the\nEgyptians dead upon the seashore\u201d (see Exodus 14: 23-30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why am I\nsmiling? Our Creator God is so\u2026creative! He threw the army into confusion and\n\u201cmade the wheels of their chariots come off so that they had difficulty\ndriving\u201d (NIV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The margins\nof my Bible have numerous notations, \u201cGod fights.\u201d When the Israelites took\npossession of the land God had promised, they faced many battles, but God\nassured them the victory lay in his hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moses addressed the people. \u201c\u2026You are now to cross the\nJordan today to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you\u2026Know\ntherefore this day that the Lord your God is He Who goes over before you as a\ndevouring fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall\ndispossess them out and make them perish quickly, as the Lord has promised you\u201d\n(Deuteronomy 9:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before turning leadership over to Joshua, Moses said to the\nIsraelites, \u201cThe Lord your God will Himself go over before you, and He will\ndestroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them\u2026Be strong,\ncourageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord\nyour God Who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you\u201d (see\nDeuteronomy 31:3-6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n To Joshua he said, \u201cBe strong, courageous, and firm\u2026It is\nthe Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; He will not fail you or\nlet you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear\nnot, neither become broken [in spirit\u2014depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with\nalarm]\u201d (see Deuteronomy 31:7 -8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd [the Lord] charged Joshua son of Nun, Be strong and courageous\nand firm, for you shall bring the Israelites into the land which I swore to\ngive them, and I will be with you\u201d (Deuteronomy 31:23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n God still fights for his people. Are you in a battle today? In\nyour impossible circumstance have you wondered, \u201cHow on earth could even God\ndeliver me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are you in a battle today? Rest assured he\u2019s able today to do whatever you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cImpossibility is the very atmosphere of miracle\u2014it is\nmiracle in its first stage. If it is to be a great miracle, the condition is\nnot difficulty but impossibility\u201d (Streams\nin the Desert<\/em> Oct. 14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Doubtful? Remember what the Lord said to Moses. \u201c\u2026Has the\nLord\u2019s hand (His ability and power) become short (thwarted and inadequate)?
