Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These words from one of my favorite Christmas hymns put me in a thoughtful mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t see him in the manger or\nwatch him grow to be a man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t walk with him by the sea\nor hear him teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t talk with him as you and I\nwould speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wasn’t with him in the garden or\nat the trials or the cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t see him placed in the\nborrowed tomb or look inside after he had risen from the grave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn’t touch his scars or watch\nhim ascend in a cloud back to his Father in heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why should I believe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his resurrection Jesus\nappeared to his disciples. He showed them the scars in his hands and his side,\nbut Thomas wasn’t there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, the other disciples told\nhim, \u201cWe have seen the Lord.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas declared, “Except I\nshall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print\nof the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.” He\nwas one of those \u201cseeing is believing\u201d folks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eight days later Jesus appeared\nagain to the disciples\u2014including Thomas\u2014and said to him, “Reach hither thy\nfinger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my\nside: and be not faithless, but believing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas responded, “My Lord and\nmy God.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said, “Thomas, because\nthou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and\nyet have believed” (See John 20:19-29). These believe without seeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m in that group. I never saw Jesus face to face, but through eyes of faith I saw him. In this matter, seeing isn’t believing. Have you seen the Lord? He calls us\nto be not faithless but believing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
