Maybe you\u2019ve thought\u2026<em>He\nwill really be pleased if I do this\u2026He will really love me if I stop doing\nthat.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve fallen into that trap\u2014seeking\napproval based on my performance. That\u2019s been a tendency in human relationships\nas well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we want to impress people,\nwe need to know what they expect and appreciate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two things amazed Jesus\u2014faith and lack of faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwp.me%2Fp9m6jT-jF&#038;text=%20Two%20things%20amazed%20Jesus%E2%80%94faith%20and%20lack%20of%20faith.&#038;via=DianneBarker12&#038;related=DianneBarker12' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Two things amazed Jesus\u2014faith and lack of faith. <\/a><\/span><a href='https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwp.me%2Fp9m6jT-jF&#038;text=%20Two%20things%20amazed%20Jesus%E2%80%94faith%20and%20lack%20of%20faith.&#038;via=DianneBarker12&#038;related=DianneBarker12' target='_blank' class='bctt-ctt-btn'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click To Tweet<\/a><\/span>\n\n\n\n<p>A centurion heard about Jesus and sent a delegation asking him to come and heal his servant, who lingered near death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was not far from the\nhouse when the centurion sent friends to say to him: \u2018Lord, don\u2019t trouble\nyourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I\ndid not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my\nservant will be healed\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen Jesus heard this, he\nwas amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, \u2018I tell\nyou, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.\u2019 Then the men who had\nbeen sent returned to the house and found the servant well\u201d (see Luke 7:1-10\nNIV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus had a different\nresponse when he went to his hometown and began teaching in the synagogue.\nPeople began asking questions. \u201c\u2018Isn\u2019t this the carpenter? Isn\u2019t this Mary\u2019s\nson and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren\u2019t his sisters here\nwith us?\u2019 And they took offense at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJesus said to them, \u2018Only in his hometown is a prophet without honor.\u2019 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their lack of faith\u201d (see Mark 6:1-6 NIV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Israelites struggled to\ntrust the Lord during their long journey to the land of promise. Giving\ninstruction through Moses and Joshua, the Lord often said, \u201cWhen you come into\nthe land\u2026.\u201d He never said \u201cif.\u201d He had made a covenant, and it was a done deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord still speaks. When he gives a promise, it\u2019s a done deal.
