I started thinking about all the references that speak to who God is or what God does\u2014and it was overwhelming!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cPreserves my life; fulfills his purpose; is my rock, salvation, defense, glory, fortress, lamp; gives me rest and peace; does a new thing; makes a way; strengthens me; helps me; upholds me; draws me up; sets my feet on a rock; makes my steps secure; restores, confirms, strengthens, establishes me; puts a new song in my mouth; makes me tread on my high places; calls me in righteousness; takes me by the hand and keeps me; brings me out with rejoicing and shouts of joy; out of darkness and deepest gloom; breaks away my chains; prepares me for this very thing; turns my darkness into light; keeps me in perfect peace; plucks my feet out of the net; gives me power; increases strength; gives strong support; hears my voice; deals bountifully with me; delivers my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes\u2026overwhelming! Believers would do well to read this every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What if you knew that, wherever you are, whatever you are going through, those promises were true? What if you could depend on God to keep his Word?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, can we depend on him? That\u2019s what we have to decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t know about you, but I have a little short-term-memory problem. I forget today the awesome thing God did for me yesterday. Current struggles loom so large and crushing that they blot out the miracle God did just for me, showing himself to be my rock and my defense. He gave me rest and peace. He set my feet on a rock and kept me from stumbling. If I choose to remember what he did yesterday, I will not allow worry to overcome me today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God and I have a history. His strong arm has never failed me in the past. That\u2019s something I must do <em>deliberately<\/em>. That word just came to mind, but it isn\u2019t a word I often use. Thesaurus gives these synonyms: intentionally, on purpose, consciously, methodically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Romans 12:2 says, \u201cAnd be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of&nbsp; your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Memorizing Scripture\u2014deliberately, intentionally, on purpose, consciously, methodically ingesting God&#8217;s promises\u2014renews the mind, changing our thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When troubled, I often ask friends to pray. They are quick to assure me everything will be all right. Books by Christian authors give encouragement. The pastor\u2019s Sunday messages offer comfort and hope. But a question mark lingers in my thinking. Can God intervene in <em>my<\/em> situation? Will he?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I open His Word and learn more about who he is and what he does. The question mark becomes an exclamation point! God can and he will!&nbsp; Believing God in my hard place changes me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in a hard place today, why not print the above promises (in bold)? Read them every day and throughout the day until you believe them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our God is faithful to keep his promises. You can depend on it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d love to hear how a promise carried you through your hard place.
