Maximum Living–Have You Found It?

Maximum living is that superior quality of life Jesus called abundant (John 10:10). How do we access that?

While teaching a couples’ Sunday School class, I read aloud the focus verse for the week. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer” (Ps. 19:14).

Although I’d read the verse many times, the meaning suddenly filled me with awe. Looking at the class in amazement, I said, “What an extraordinary way to live!”

So with a thirsty heart I began to seek the Lord.

I wanted to know what Jesus said and how he expected me to live. Reading through the gospels, I paid attention to his words. Using a concordance I did word studies on areas of need in my life.

As I learned to take my concerns to the Lord in prayer, I found him to be a reliable Friend who wanted to spend time with me–in fact, welcomed me into his presence.

My studies convinced me there are only two essentials for maximum living.

  • A conviction that God has standard of conduct for our lives (outlined in his Word).
  • A desire to live that way (walk in obedience).

“So shall you heartily accept My commandments and conform your life and conduct to them. I am the Lord” (Lev. 22:31)

Maybe there’s an emptiness in your life. Are you looking for something to fill it? Jesus longs to fill you with himself. He said, “I am the Vine; you are the brancGrapeshes. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

That’s maximum living. Don’t miss it!
