Once there was a woman who owned her own business, but the responsibility of running it proved quite an undertaking.
“This is too much for me,” she said. “I need someone to run the business.” Finding a capable person, she made him president.
“I have full confidence in your ability,” she said. “I’m leaving everything in your hands. You’ll make all the decisions. I’m giving you total control.”
As he started to work, he heard footsteps behind him.
“I forgot to mention this department,” she said. “It’s a mess.”
“I know,” he said.
“And that area looks impossible. I hope you can do something about it.”
“It’s in the plan.”
“And this section,” she said, nearly bumping into him as he stopped suddenly and looked at her.
“I thought you put me in charge.”
“I did!” she said. “I only want to point out a few needs.”
“Tell me again who will make all the decisions.”
“You will! I’m just offering suggestions.”
“And you’re giving me total control?”
“Yes! I’m only trying to help.”
He didn’t say another word.
I am that woman. The business is my life. Long ago I asked Christ to take full control. Meanwhile I went about business as usual, giving him pointers.

And please don’t neglect that. This area is in really bad shape. And can you do anything about that mess?”
I almost bumped into him as he stopped and gently spoke.
“I thought you put everything in my hands. I thought I would make all the decisions. I thought I had total control.”
“What have I done! I put you in charge, but I’m still giving orders. You know the business much better than I. You don’t need me to supervise. You only need me to surrender so you can get on with the work.”
“Exactly,” he said.
“Go ahead. It’s all yours.”
Turning my life over to Christ is the smartest thing I’ve ever done.

Hey Dianne, enjoyed this…well, not totally, it did step on my toes a bit. Okay, a lot! But it’s a much needed truth for all of us. And I had to smile about giving Christ control, then giving Him pointers. Oh, how I’ve been there. Something I say is, “God is CEO of my life. Am I in His seat?” Because His name is on the door and the desk. 🙂
One last thing, I love your Cabbages and Kings book! Need to reacquaint myself with it.
Thank you, my friend! I think most of us are familiar with this place–trying to instruct the CEO about how to do His job! I wonder if He finds us amusing!
